Myrtle Beach will attempt Guinness record for world’s tallest sand castle
Myrtle Beach will attempt to build the world’s tallest sand castle during the resort’s annual Sun Fun Festival, which runs from May 31 through June 7.
Myrtle Beach already holds the Guinness record for the world’s longest sand castle - 86,535 feet (more that 16 miles) – created by an estimated 10,000 people in 1991.
Myrtle Beach plans a sand castle that is 35 feet tall. It will use 70 dump trucks full of sand and have a base that is 60 feet wide. The sand castle will be built on the beach near the popular Myrtle Beach Pavilion. Team Santastic, which is comprised of eight sand sculptors, has been contracted to build the castle.
The current record for the tallest sandcastle is 29.25 feet held by Parkfest in Falmount, Maine, for the past three years.
